The Feathered Serpent

In his time with humans, he was adored
Quetzalcoatl, a god living among men
Had a mind of a scholar, heart of a saint
Led the people to awareness of their place
For the people were without a frame
Without knowledge of the world outside
Not knowing about this blue planet
So majestic, hung upon a wall of stars
Even if his flesh suffer wounds, even die
He'd be instantly restored
His being remembered in lore
His love inside burned in his core
He was powerful, noble, good
He was able to give life
Also would overcome death
Upon discovering treachery
He chose to end his life
And upon his returned
He'd taught his final lesson
And then returned to space
From where he'd first came
He is forever alive
The feathered serpent remains
And is said to return, some day
