The throwing of living captives overboard
Followed with claiming their death
As a business loss
A moment in human existence
That ought to linger
It should crush the soul to the core
Human beings on ship given a toss
So that the deaths would show
On a spread sheet or slate ledger
Seems like madness, but it happened
The massacre on the Zong was a tragedy
That must be and should be remembered
Not just a cruel and moment in time
But one that demonstrates our failure
We must never forget it
Slavery is an obvious crime
We should regret it
But not all of us do
Its an insult to the entire species
Because such moments are truth
And do not exist in the abstract
They have happened
And because they do
We must never relent
We must eradicate our ideas
That others are not the same
We've allowed massacres and catastrophes
By our own choices
So must now raise our voices
We must make treatment of all
Equal in respect and dignity
Or the many will fall
Into the realm of bestial violence
And unbridled hate
