They Ran

We chased them
Throughout Judaea
Into the Syrian deserts
They ran like rabbits
Running from a bear
In every direction
They scattered
They rebelled against Rome
Against their local rulers
They were zealots
Of a cause
That was lost
To every horizon
We chased them
They fought
And ran
But they were not cowardly
For their strategy allowed them
To keep fighting
And we were compelled
To chase

Lessons Burned

Throw away the sorrow
Ignore the lessons
We should all have learned
The earth cannot be tamed
Humans are fragile
Knowledge and wisdom is earned
Every wave that radiates
Destroys something upon the earth
No matter how unique
No matter the joy of birth
We ignore the lessons known
We forget the lessons burned

Shadows burned upon the walls
Destruction untold awaits
There is nothing more to learn
When splitting the atom
Devastates

Nightmare over Libya

The predators hunt at night
When the light is dim
But silhouettes
The convoys on patrol
The predators are in control
Smashing down and destroying
The armored columns
And soldiers
The predators hunt at night
In a world where oil
And power
Make right
The predators still fly
Wherever needed
They'll feast upon
Fetid remains
And then sleep
But
They will hunt
And start the process
New again
Whenever the opportunity
Calls

Ouch

She took one knife
And started with a cut
Straight through
I held my nuts
And she said
Grow up
Leave and shut the door
Be a man
When will you learn
I winced and cried
She shouted then
Shut up
Or I'll cut up yours
When its your turn

From Spark to Flame

To love you
My heart must risk
My soul must brace
To be forbidden
To embrace
Your being
I long for you
I long to taste
My soul begins to weary
From the pursuit
But from hope
I continue
For your form
Is grace
For your lips
Divine
Your face
Is proof
Of perfection
As the taste of
The finest wine
As the scent of
Perfect perfumes
I long to be
In your embrace
Within your
Private rooms
Of your secret garden
Of your gentle whims
Of your fire
Of your scent
To taste of your soul
In my mouth
And being
I cannot relent
In this chase

Wear the Mark

I am a man
An animal
A flesh born beast
I demand
Resources and pleasure
I demand the carnal feast
I am one
Of my kind there are many
Every addition to our number
Is victory
We will prevail
We are the horde
Each new life
Is a being
Born to hunger
Born to absorb
All that is here in this world
Some worry over the end
But they are lost to fear
We are the way
We will not relent
Flesh
Meat
Hunger
We will bear our teeth
Life
Death
We will overcome
We are more than one
We are the beast

one night in the morgue

How can I relate to this world
Every breath is filled with sorrow
Every hope is twirled
Into the miasma
Of fear and greed
I am alone
Waiting for the end
Hope has a seed in me
But it can never grow
I can only wait
Reap and sow
The dreams be more
Than taunts and torments
Of a better world
That remains out of reach
Ever so
While the reality of my life
Is that it burns
Every pass by
Every rotation
Every turn

1994

The spray of red
From a machete unleashed
100 days
They became the beast
Carnal orgy
Flesh consumed
Hell has ordered
The final feast
100 days in 1994
None were prepared
For such misery
At the core
Waiting for the moment
They made the others pay
For being others
While the rest of the world
Looked away
The carnage a festival
The disaster that poured over
Mankind failed
Our flesh became the whore
For destruction
For a poisoned legacy
Of human decay

Longbows against the tide

Nothing could stop the wave
Of fire and destruction
Every act against it
Was forlorn
No one could escape
Annihilation was inevitable
Even when the defenders
Were oath sworn
And brave
It was inexorable
Endlessly it hungered
Marched without rest
Consuming all
And the men and women
Sent to stop it
Were swallowed up
In its tide

I surrendered

In my home I was king
I lived in luxury and sweet comfort
But she came into my presence
And my being screamed
For here was this creature
Dancing with abandon
And sweet temptation
Before me she was
More than any man could desire
Such a cherished treasure
Temptation so powerful
Lust so indiscreet
I could taste it
And by any measure
She was perfect
She danced, moved so sweetly
Intoxicated my dreams
My being
So completely overwhelmed
By her
When she moved
Like she did
And again
Her perfume mixed with sweat
From her body’s work
Moving in rhythm
To the beat
My body swayed watching
And my heart moved along
Such sweet surrender
To her charms

My heart spoke and said
I completely surrender
And it was good

By an Accident

He wasn't a greatest king
Nor was he well known
He wasn't the sort
Those generations following
Would speak of and glow
He was a boy
With an oddly shaped head
He was a king by birth
Not by skills
And he was neither great
Nor worth note
But he is remembered
He is known by a single name
For by accident his tomb
Was covered up
And forgotten
Without shame
Until someone found it
Under the rubble
And remains
Of others
And his burial shrouds
And gems
His treasures
That accompanied him
In death
Amazed the world
And they remembered his name
An accident of history
Brought him fame
For Tut was a boy
Who died as king

Saladin, The Eagle of the Desert

The eagle of the desert
Saladin roamed and hunted
Crushing the invaders
Holding audience
With those seeking justice
His way was good
His strength was great
And the rule of the fair
Echoes his name
Saladin

None who stood before him
Could doubt he was the one
Who'd lead Islam to victory
Over the invaders
Franks, and Germans
Spaniards and more
Sought to plant their banner
Where Christ died

But he led the resistance
He overcame the tide
And sent back the knights
With the metal hides

inspired by Rumi

WHEN SHE

I loved her and knew
There was only love in my heart when I saw her
And she showed me that it wasn’t enough
For so long I suffered
Without her
And now alone
I still see her
And step behind the veil
So that I could see
Through eternity
And wait

“The minute I heard my first love story I started looking for
you, not knowing how blind that was. Lovers don't finally
meet somewhere. They're in each other all along.”

“This is love: to fly toward a secret sky, to cause a hundred
veils to fall each moment. First to let go of life. Finally, to
take a step without feet.”

Jalal ad-Din Rumi

Tattooed Planet

It leaves marks
This existence
Some scars
Some tattoos
The more we war
The more we indulge
The more permanent
It is
Some tattoos are beautiful
Some scars are ugly
But they are who we are
And what we do
There is no way to exist
Without leaving footprints
Of our presence
So let us embrace our being
Rather than curse

Forever it is, Time does not exist

Eternity means
No more flesh
No more earth
No more dying
No more birth
There is no time
No existence
Simply matter
Ever lasting
And conscience
Life is a conceit
We are meaningless
The world we know
Will pass away
And all that is truth
Except for the eternal
Will fade
Forever until gone
Time ends
A construct
Eternity is far away
From our understanding
Nonetheless exists
Until we know
By becoming

Amun is Satisfied

Above the desert
Looks upon the face
Of the land
Egypt is blessed
By Amun
An eternal embrace
By his hand
Amenhotep III ruled
With grace and earned
Divinity
The land prospered
The people were happy
In the land
That Amun blessed

Tunnel vision

When you are in the tunnel
All there is
Is what you can see
And nothing else
Society damns you
For your limits
But what you have
Is all
There is nothing left
To be

Tumulus

Let me lay beneath the mounded earth
In final resting sleep
Lay my body out in gentle dreams
To give my final birth
I enter in the after world
Where all my flesh sins are known
Let me dream in Elysium
Let me dance in fair meadows
Let me be with all my kin
Let me reap what I have sewn

Too Long For You

I sorrowed too long for you
Grieved too much for what
Your ways and words just wound me
I fear your anger
Your affections are not given but bought
I've paid my price
(too much)
I've born the cost
(my soul)
I am leaving now
The path is clear even if I seem lost
You won't miss me
That much I am sure
Toss my heart into the pile
Of others you've killed and caught

IMPALER

Vlad the Impaler
Vlad Dracula
Son of the Dragon
Was known for his cruelty
And he was remembered
In legend
But he ate bread dipped
In the blood of the impaled
He had prisoners blinded
Slaughtered thousands before him
To prevent the incursion of the Turks
Who worshiped Allah
For the cross, he said
He would drive them back
And he did
And more
His violent response
Was more than enough
To tell the Turks
That this land
Was his
But he was beyond cruel
He was evil
And to celebrate him
Is perhaps not cruel
But fails to hold
The ugly truth
The nightmare
He was the impaler
Greater than the legend
That would rise
When the legend
Doesn’t reach the reality
When what we know
Pales before the true toll
History compels us
To look closer
And his anger
Went beyond
All memory
Into nightmare

When the Walls

She begged me to be but I couldn't
She called me her own but I really can't
I spent all this time building up walls
And I damn well expected them to last
But they won't
Because she is the one who demands my heart
And it is wrapped up in the past
I cannot bear her mercy
Nor her kind words
Because they just want me to be hers
Forever needing
And I've been there before
And its a curse
Or worse
The walls are there for a purpose
I'll be damned when they are fallen down
Don't think I can be saved by concrete
Nor steel nor wood nor stone
But I can't bear this life alone
So down they come
Fall and fall again
I am unable to stop it now
So I am going to be away
But my flesh here will remain

One Against

To find purpose
in the perfection
of the sword
and willingness
to die
a blade in the hand of a warrior
a kensai
a storm of enemies
behind a wall
the rush
the push
of many
one stands against
the slaughter
one makes a difference
even should they fall
for the act of defiance
in the teeth
of fear
is power

Society in the Crosshairs

Unelect
They must unelect
Cancel the decisions
Others made
For they have a mission
Chosen to lift their voice
From the depth of their being
Making a choice
They heard a noise
Inside their head
They cannot try
To unsee what is seen
So they place their hope in
A crosshair
A gun
A trigger pulled
To change the day
To pay us back
Our hopes are dulled
They mock society
That they despise
They scoff
They laugh
Every time they kill
Society cast them off
Shut them out
Long before
They acted
But they had no doubt
They were called
They were the ones
To right the mistakes
Others made

BREAKING THE ENEMY'S BACK

Engines coughing smoke
Petrol fumes in the air
Cigarettes doused and oxygen
Turned on
About to enter
The enemy's lair

Fortresses flying above
The ground frozen below
The bombs sent to kill
To destroy, to strike a blow

Fires of buildings
Burning towns
Munition centers
Burning down

The air war didn't stop
Until there was nothing left
To destroy and rend
The bombs continued to drop
Until the regime fell
The land would bleed
Until the war end
And destruction
Of the enemy

NIGHT OWLS

Knights of the Black Cross
Riding their owls
Fall from the darkness
Ripping open the veil
Of night
They wait to prey
Upon the fleet of ships
Below them
Weary from the journey
Humming loudly
As they wait
To drop their death
Above the land
Of the Iron Cross
Who has knights
Who will fight
Until the land burns
Along with the people
It has murdered

The Red Clouds of Oblivion

We stare into the bank of clouds approaching
For the end is surely come
Fulfilling all prophecies spoken
Making the endless sing
The world we know is dead
And the end is begun
The battle is over
The eternal war is done

Comedy for the Humorless

I was born to a woman who had been raped
Adopted by two broken people
Raised to be moral, and perfect
In a world
So not perfect
So not moral
Set to reject
One like me
Life is a comedy
A tragedy
A balance
Between the foolish
And the pain
A dance in the darkness
Of the blind and the lost
Into the abyss we are tossed
Oblivious to the cost
We dance
And have no hope

Death is an end of one day

Step away from reality
Forget about finality
Living is not the answer
Life is a fatal disease
Walk into the doorway
Walk upon a different stage
Walk upon the balcony
Enter in to a different place
Don’t be worried
Its all been arranged
Have an embrace
A kiss before dying
Azrael has been waiting
However you’ve come
You won’t be back
Forgive my apathy
No more wasting
No more desire
No more hope
Only fire
Only darkness
Only atrophy
So don’t wait long
Don’t worry nor weep
Don’t wail nor sadly sing
Time is a fantasy
Reality is endless
So long as you understand
Birth is a symphony
Death is an end of a single day
Life is a tragedy
Of a one act play
Living is a tune
Eternity is a rhapsody
A shout in a valley
A moment of exhilaration
Victory

Wearing the Obsidian Cloak

We wear the cloak
Of obsidian black
For our sorrows
Mocking oblivion
We are the entrants
To modern Babylon
Our ears hear the sound
From demonic chants
All are cursed
In chains of flesh bound
And we shake in pain
Of the truth
We are the cause
We built hell
We are proof
Given Eden
We choose death
Given life
We choose the end
Given hope
We elect despair
We built this place
We poured out blame
We burned our beings
We embraced shame
Hell is our own creation
To punish our selves
For our greatest crime
Of destroying Eden
Destroying our world
There is nothing left
But our own guilt
We are unforgiven
By our own embrace

Entropy wins

The endless plague
Diseased hands
Holding sand
Instead of grain
The endless sorrow
Thirsted of rain
The land cries
The harvest awaits
For the fallen sleep
Dreaming of ever
While laying cold
In the earth
Leaving no memory
No legacy
No history
Nothing left behind
The seasons change
Endlessly
They rage against
Time
The desolation
The passing of age
The end awaits
No regeneration
No reincarnation
The earth spins
Slower
Until it stops
Entropy
Wins
