Cold is this war

As one war ended, with Allies shaking hands
Jubilant, standing on the defeated enemies land
Another horrible war began
The previous war still burning, there was fire
Not an active war, but a bitterly cold war
Never mind wounds unhealed and scars
This war extending into space and stars
Few saw how the danger was dire
A world divided into spheres, never realizing
Each dollar and ruble was actually deciding
Our hubris was guiding
So was our ire
Yes, we'd allow hungry children
Starvation
Taking the world's bounty
And carving from nations
Principalities and locations
A world of walls and barbed wire
What could save us from ourselves?
Would the end mean nothing was left
Or were we finally impressed
By the impossibility to escape the mire
Knowing the bombs and missiles
The tanks, jets and vessels
Had an endless mission
Unable to retire
Until we made a choice
Raised our voice
If it had gone on
And we could not end this conflict
Unless all were dead
It was prepared to kill us
Leaving no one left to bury us
