Triumph

Modernity we praise you
We set ourselves
Upon your altar
We long to be made new
Despite the past
That pours through

We praise all things modern
Forget the archaic
However sublime
We ignore all that passed before us
For that was old
Before its time

Modernity will have its Roman Triumph
The procession will march as it follows
The path of least resistance
Made so by sacrifices of others
Who were caught up in the throes
Of ecstasy and of terror
Of the new world before their eyes
We mock the past for its primordial ooze
But doing so covers us with lies

Modernity is like a snake
Winding down a maze
Only the head is visible
While the tail and body
Are hidden from gaze
We do not expect it
We are inheritors
Of this world
To find this world cast upon us
We are lavished upon
We are turned and dance
For while this world is perfect
Many burned to reach this place
Many died to give us this chance
This moment is not now
This moment has happened before
The events of the past are still happening
But the innocence of then
Cannot be restored

SHE

Created to replace the flesh bound
She is cold steel and perfect
She is immune to emotions
And her voice is hammer sounds
Her wiring is complex
Her heart an electrical mass
We have crowned her
As our queen
She is superior indeed
To any fleshy thing
We long to be like her
Cold to emotions
Strong and tireless
Exhibiting no weakness
Immune to desires

Try as you may

There is only dust and we are only clay
We can aspire to God but I can't see the way
The path is narrow and the way is hard
I am in so much pain, I've so many sorrows in my heart
So I beg of any who listen to give me some hope
For I am not able to make it on my own
Alone
Alone
Alone

Shi Huangdi

Ruthless and brave
Superstitious
Unsophisticate
Warrior and thinker
Cultural force
Burner of books
Holder of the throne
The master of the Qin
Shi Huangdi
Maker of China
Builder of the wall
Remembered in victory
The master of laws
The ruler of all
Legalism his means
Control his ends
Shi Huangdi believed
In a destiny for men
And China
The middle kingdom
Would be King
Of both now
And the future
When

Libyan Oil

Where are the chants
Of no blood for oil
Apparently we've become immune
To memories we scorn
Whatever ruler
Holds the power
We adjust our disdain
Our disgust
For war
For hate
But the leader we chose
Is right
His views and ours mate
We agree
So that whoever it is
We hold him in high regard
We all cannot wait
For our side to be right
So when
No not if
The one we support
Does the same
As previous leaders
Whatever the cause
Or reason
With our morals so flexible
Whatever the season
We can autofellate
So long as
We are right

The First Man

He was the first
A pioneer
Periodically one appears
One man, sent into the darkness
One sent against the unknowable
Bravely and patriotically
Sent with hopes
And many fears
He survived
Returned
And was one
Who conquered the unknown
Proving again
This race of flesh beings
Can overcome
All that stands before us
In peace

Another time

I saw her from a distance
I never spoke to her
Or touched her hand or hair
I knew if I was able
I'd suffer forever after
And my soul would tear
For she was beautiful
And she moved with grace
Her eyes penetrated my own
Her soul was powerful
And I could feel my orbit
Begin to be pulled
Towards her
Towards her
Towards her

Give me hope, Or I will die

I am composed
Of clay
God's image molded
In my spirit
God's hand creates
The soul within my mass
I am alone
Inside the world around me
I am not of this tribe
Nor species
Nor kin
I am alone above all
Nothing but hope inside
For without it
I would die
And the spark would fade
Destiny be damned
There is no fate
But to live
And then
But to die

Never another

Not going to play
Not going to cry
Not going to let my heart hurt
Not letting her in this time
Her love isn't joy
but a curse
I cannot begin to answer why
All I know is
I don't need these wounds
I don't need to suffer
I don't want to bleed
I might want a lover
But
Every time she smiles
Something inside me dies

Je ne peux plus l'amour

You have hurt me
You have torn me so
Wounded my soul
Thrown me to the winds
Made my heart so cold
I am the one
Who must recover
From this
Never again can I
Be someone's lover
Never again will I kiss
I am undone by you
You have gripped my being
My spirit has burned through
Your words the match
Your love the gasoline
Answers to my questions
I will never receive
You never loved me
But I always believed
And now it is over
My heart beats
Aching the sound of thunder
I can barely breathe
I am torn asunder
Thrown into the breeze
Cast into the sea
I am no longer alive
I simply survive

Gear

“Smooth shapes are very rare in the wild but extremely important in the ivory tower and the factory.” Benoit Mandelbrot

Every moment we turn
We grind against the steel
And all there is
Is the sound of decay
Destruction
And horror
Reviled
Day by day
Consumed
By the toll of life
How much is left
To the ticking clock
Every second dances
Falls away lost to our hands

Azrael calls
We are fools
To ignore
We are ground
Into dust
But we go on
Until our lost
Are found
Until
The way is known
There is often so little hope
The cost is great
When we die
We are all nude
And gray
And cold

We are left with nothing
But leave knowing
There was something
Worth living for
Something to wait for
Before dying
We endure
For there is purpose
We live
For there is something
Righteous
In us
To find

Before we leave
Forever
Take my hand
I leave soon
But not before
I know
Before I find
What is righteous
In me

We are the RUS

Covered in rings of metal
Armed with forged steel
Protected by Thor’s runes
We are his hammer
drinking wine
from virgin navels
eating dates
from looted caravans of camels
We are the Rus
Feel our wrath
Our ways are harsh
Our steel is true
Covered in your blood
We follow the path
We are the living
Who long have traveled
The paths of the dead
Covered in crimson
We paint the snows so white
With red
From north of Africa
To western reaches
Of Persia
We exist to conquer
We will overwhelm
Your foolish walls
And defenses
Keep your ways
Maintain the pretense
Your perfect society
Will fail
For we come upon our ships
Will steal what you make
Take what you produce
Leave for you to resume
Your lives
Until the next harvest
Coming soon
Light the fires
To light our way
To invite our rage
Your shores will be ours
We will take your treasures
Your walls will fall
And we shall enter in
To pillage and burn
Kill your warriors
And then
We will leave
Only to again return

Cold and Dreamless

The sky was dark
Despite it being day
The sun hung low
Upon the horizon
Winter was thick
There was no shame
Of being cold
Wrapped in blankets
The winter winds blew
The ice and snows came
You had to huddle
To keep your bones
From shaking
From the long falling frigid rain
This winter wasn’t a season
It was a time
When the dreamers slept
Dreamless
And life was empty
There was no reason
To exist
For the good had passed
There was only treason
The veil of darkness had fallen
And day looked like dusk
The night was pitch black
There was only hope
And that was failing
We lingered in the place
In despair
For there was nothing we could do
To change

Into Graylands

I’ve wandered and I’ve spun my thread
To the end of its length
I’ve searched forever
To solve this wretched torment
And I’ve slept
For I need rest
The graylands are quiet
Forbidding strangers venture
The walls are tall
And the watchers are silent
Waiting for answers
That won’t come in sleep
For emotion is a dream
Revealing our fears
Revealing the fragility
Of our soul
In passion we thrive
But it is dust and toil
Despite our lust
To know
To be in middle
And be able to choose
To know what is false
To know the truth
In the midst of turmoil
You can feel the twist
Of a dagger
In your back
In the mist of anger
Hate prevails
Regardless of danger
Of wounds
And friendly fire
Between friends
And their motives
And strangers
And their unknown ends
Of lovers and love
Of perfumed lust
And unholy desire
I fall down waiting
For the final strike
The final blow
I beg for my being
To be free
From the flesh’s control
I long to be redeemed
From the bonds
That hold
I long to be free
For there is more than me
More than what I can see
I long to taste it in my heart
My flesh cries out
Let me be released
Let it be begun
For there are no answers
Bound here in my flesh
My spirit longs to dance
In the graylands
With my love

Life

The snow covered
The entire forest floor
It laid thick
In the aspen branches
A white coat that smothered
All the colors
The last dancers
Remaining from Autumn
A raven lands
His black feathers
From top to bottom
A discordant theme
From the white snow
There is a moment
Of bliss
The sound of nothing
The absence of warmth
Purity of image
Simple perfection
Of nature alive
No need to conform
No stimuli
Simple existence
Beautiful without guile
Without purpose
Beyond demands
Just living
Life

The Tower in the desert

An alluring vision
So unique
In the depths of night
Walks alone
Under darkest reach
Of African sands
Before her
The tower stands
It showers its mystique
Upon the surrounding land
Baptized in blood
Of the sentries
Who defend against
The invader wave
Riding camels
And Arabian horse
Led by a prophet
The horde a beast
Killing
Slaughtering
The adult men
And enslaving the rest
To sell for gold and silver
And precious gems
Forbidding them life
Outside of another’s control
They toiled
Until death
No matter
The worth
Of their life and soul
The Tower stands
Remembers
All of the loss
For the love of gold
She walks away from it
Refusing to enter
The Tower is empty
The toll is a memory
That haunts
Forever

Creation

Invited in
Welcomed
Changed everything
Made special
God would create
One voice
I can never forget
My son
Was made this day
And by so doing
My being was made
Worthy

They Ran

We chased them
Throughout Judaea
Into the Syrian deserts
They ran like rabbits
Running from a bear
In every direction
They scattered
They rebelled against Rome
Against their local rulers
They were zealots
Of a cause
That was lost
To every horizon
We chased them
They fought
And ran
But they were not cowardly
For their strategy allowed them
To keep fighting
And we were compelled
To chase

Lessons Burned

Throw away the sorrow
Ignore the lessons
We should all have learned
The earth cannot be tamed
Humans are fragile
Knowledge and wisdom is earned
Every wave that radiates
Destroys something upon the earth
No matter how unique
No matter the joy of birth
We ignore the lessons known
We forget the lessons burned

Shadows burned upon the walls
Destruction untold awaits
There is nothing more to learn
When splitting the atom
Devastates

Nightmare over Libya

The predators hunt at night
When the light is dim
But silhouettes
The convoys on patrol
The predators are in control
Smashing down and destroying
The armored columns
And soldiers
The predators hunt at night
In a world where oil
And power
Make right
The predators still fly
Wherever needed
They'll feast upon
Fetid remains
And then sleep
But
They will hunt
And start the process
New again
Whenever the opportunity
Calls

Ouch

She took one knife
And started with a cut
Straight through
I held my nuts
And she said
Grow up
Leave and shut the door
Be a man
When will you learn
I winced and cried
She shouted then
Shut up
Or I'll cut up yours
When its your turn

From Spark to Flame

To love you
My heart must risk
My soul must brace
To be forbidden
To embrace
Your being
I long for you
I long to taste
My soul begins to weary
From the pursuit
But from hope
I continue
For your form
Is grace
For your lips
Divine
Your face
Is proof
Of perfection
As the taste of
The finest wine
As the scent of
Perfect perfumes
I long to be
In your embrace
Within your
Private rooms
Of your secret garden
Of your gentle whims
Of your fire
Of your scent
To taste of your soul
In my mouth
And being
I cannot relent
In this chase

Wear the Mark

I am a man
An animal
A flesh born beast
I demand
Resources and pleasure
I demand the carnal feast
I am one
Of my kind there are many
Every addition to our number
Is victory
We will prevail
We are the horde
Each new life
Is a being
Born to hunger
Born to absorb
All that is here in this world
Some worry over the end
But they are lost to fear
We are the way
We will not relent
Flesh
Meat
Hunger
We will bear our teeth
Life
Death
We will overcome
We are more than one
We are the beast

one night in the morgue

How can I relate to this world
Every breath is filled with sorrow
Every hope is twirled
Into the miasma
Of fear and greed
I am alone
Waiting for the end
Hope has a seed in me
But it can never grow
I can only wait
Reap and sow
The dreams be more
Than taunts and torments
Of a better world
That remains out of reach
Ever so
While the reality of my life
Is that it burns
Every pass by
Every rotation
Every turn

1994

The spray of red
From a machete unleashed
100 days
They became the beast
Carnal orgy
Flesh consumed
Hell has ordered
The final feast
100 days in 1994
None were prepared
For such misery
At the core
Waiting for the moment
They made the others pay
For being others
While the rest of the world
Looked away
The carnage a festival
The disaster that poured over
Mankind failed
Our flesh became the whore
For destruction
For a poisoned legacy
Of human decay

Longbows against the tide

Nothing could stop the wave
Of fire and destruction
Every act against it
Was forlorn
No one could escape
Annihilation was inevitable
Even when the defenders
Were oath sworn
And brave
It was inexorable
Endlessly it hungered
Marched without rest
Consuming all
And the men and women
Sent to stop it
Were swallowed up
In its tide

I surrendered

In my home I was king
I lived in luxury and sweet comfort
But she came into my presence
And my being screamed
For here was this creature
Dancing with abandon
And sweet temptation
Before me she was
More than any man could desire
Such a cherished treasure
Temptation so powerful
Lust so indiscreet
I could taste it
And by any measure
She was perfect
She danced, moved so sweetly
Intoxicated my dreams
My being
So completely overwhelmed
By her
When she moved
Like she did
And again
Her perfume mixed with sweat
From her body’s work
Moving in rhythm
To the beat
My body swayed watching
And my heart moved along
Such sweet surrender
To her charms

My heart spoke and said
I completely surrender
And it was good

By an Accident

He wasn't a greatest king
Nor was he well known
He wasn't the sort
Those generations following
Would speak of and glow
He was a boy
With an oddly shaped head
He was a king by birth
Not by skills
And he was neither great
Nor worth note
But he is remembered
He is known by a single name
For by accident his tomb
Was covered up
And forgotten
Without shame
Until someone found it
Under the rubble
And remains
Of others
And his burial shrouds
And gems
His treasures
That accompanied him
In death
Amazed the world
And they remembered his name
An accident of history
Brought him fame
For Tut was a boy
Who died as king

Saladin, The Eagle of the Desert

The eagle of the desert
Saladin roamed and hunted
Crushing the invaders
Holding audience
With those seeking justice
His way was good
His strength was great
And the rule of the fair
Echoes his name
Saladin

None who stood before him
Could doubt he was the one
Who'd lead Islam to victory
Over the invaders
Franks, and Germans
Spaniards and more
Sought to plant their banner
Where Christ died

But he led the resistance
He overcame the tide
And sent back the knights
With the metal hides

inspired by Rumi

WHEN SHE

I loved her and knew
There was only love in my heart when I saw her
And she showed me that it wasn’t enough
For so long I suffered
Without her
And now alone
I still see her
And step behind the veil
So that I could see
Through eternity
And wait

“The minute I heard my first love story I started looking for
you, not knowing how blind that was. Lovers don't finally
meet somewhere. They're in each other all along.”

“This is love: to fly toward a secret sky, to cause a hundred
veils to fall each moment. First to let go of life. Finally, to
take a step without feet.”

Jalal ad-Din Rumi

Tattooed Planet

It leaves marks
This existence
Some scars
Some tattoos
The more we war
The more we indulge
The more permanent
It is
Some tattoos are beautiful
Some scars are ugly
But they are who we are
And what we do
There is no way to exist
Without leaving footprints
Of our presence
So let us embrace our being
Rather than curse

Forever it is, Time does not exist

Eternity means
No more flesh
No more earth
No more dying
No more birth
There is no time
No existence
Simply matter
Ever lasting
And conscience
Life is a conceit
We are meaningless
The world we know
Will pass away
And all that is truth
Except for the eternal
Will fade
Forever until gone
Time ends
A construct
Eternity is far away
From our understanding
Nonetheless exists
Until we know
By becoming

Amun is Satisfied

Above the desert
Looks upon the face
Of the land
Egypt is blessed
By Amun
An eternal embrace
By his hand
Amenhotep III ruled
With grace and earned
Divinity
The land prospered
The people were happy
In the land
That Amun blessed

Tunnel vision

When you are in the tunnel
All there is
Is what you can see
And nothing else
Society damns you
For your limits
But what you have
Is all
There is nothing left
To be

Tumulus

Let me lay beneath the mounded earth
In final resting sleep
Lay my body out in gentle dreams
To give my final birth
I enter in the after world
Where all my flesh sins are known
Let me dream in Elysium
Let me dance in fair meadows
Let me be with all my kin
Let me reap what I have sewn

Too Long For You

I sorrowed too long for you
Grieved too much for what
Your ways and words just wound me
I fear your anger
Your affections are not given but bought
I've paid my price
(too much)
I've born the cost
(my soul)
I am leaving now
The path is clear even if I seem lost
You won't miss me
That much I am sure
Toss my heart into the pile
Of others you've killed and caught

IMPALER

Vlad the Impaler
Vlad Dracula
Son of the Dragon
Was known for his cruelty
And he was remembered
In legend
But he ate bread dipped
In the blood of the impaled
He had prisoners blinded
Slaughtered thousands before him
To prevent the incursion of the Turks
Who worshiped Allah
For the cross, he said
He would drive them back
And he did
And more
His violent response
Was more than enough
To tell the Turks
That this land
Was his
But he was beyond cruel
He was evil
And to celebrate him
Is perhaps not cruel
But fails to hold
The ugly truth
The nightmare
He was the impaler
Greater than the legend
That would rise
When the legend
Doesn’t reach the reality
When what we know
Pales before the true toll
History compels us
To look closer
And his anger
Went beyond
All memory
Into nightmare
