Crucixion

If you saw it done, you'd believe it was madness
And that no sound mind could choose to do it
We think of crucifixion as a solely Roman practice
But Carthage, a colony of Phoenicians did it too
Rome and Carthage were not alone in this
Others used it, for it was the epitome of cruelty
Being crucified would drive a victim to madness
Lungs would fill with liquid, the lips turned blue
A mind would be lost, in a struggle to survive it
Crucifixion is the ultimate penalty of torture
Used to punish treachery, or rebellion
Use of this means was against all humanity
Nothing could be done to save a victim
Once the body was broken thoroughly
It'd take an executioner of special ability to do it
For the process is hard, leaving an executioner broken
And there are few more painful ways to slay a man
