Perfection Denied

He could not hold it
But he saw it there
In the place of mortal secrets
His flesh was perfect
His defense of love endless
He never lost a battle
But he lived with regret
His quest for the grail
Was to feature his failure
For to find it required a heart
Uncolored by lust or deceit
He'd hoped his remorse
That his payment of moral debts
Would allow him the highest test
To find and retrieve the holy vessel
To share with the King
And restore the lands
But Lancelot did not have it
In his heart to turn away
His flesh led him to disaster
His heart caused dismay
He wanted heart's true lover
And his true love was promised another
He longed to be completed
But to do so he'd betray his brother
The King he sought the grail to fulfill
