Humans have known we're the apex predator for centuries
We've slaughtered, hunted, used for labor, senselessly slain
Thousands, if not many more, species, our fated legacy
We are blinded to a time when it will not be our day
We will not always be ascendant, failing our destiny
We've been given companions to guide us through the age
Given a beautiful planet, unimaginable potential wasted
We've not listened to companions or our friends
Imagining ourselves to be important, even great
Our hubris will be what we will be remembered for
There'll be a black mark upon our species' entire history
And our friends will suffer too, as they watch
For as long as humans feet have walked upon the earth
Our raven and crow companions have flown above us
They remind us that we are not alone nor should we be
Choices have consequence as opportunities are birthed
We believe ourselves great but we do not live for justice
Our arrogance has killed, the hubris is dangerous
It will lead to the extinction of many earth species
Including the extinction of our own
C'est fini
We live with the status of impermanence
The understanding of decay grieves us
And the serious flaws leave us empty
Guided by the fear and the lust in us
Our companions watch from aloft
Knowing our fate
Will be their own
