Bleeding, Dying, Broken

Living in a V cut into the ground
With bullets sweeping over the top
Artillery shells destroying lives
Nights without sleep from the sound
Blood spilled without stop
Fighting with guns and knives

The battlefield is our graveyard
Remnant pieces collected and buried
With crosses marking our sleep
Shells flying bombard
Our trenches become our cemetery
And the sorrow runs deep

We are the soldiers
Who died for our cause
We sleep now, undisturbed
The fires lit by war smolder
Trapped in our vicious jaws
Generations later given gifts unearned
