I was once great

You pecked at my shattered body
But you didn't know, I was once great
The sun rose every morning to greet me
And the flowers shouted my name
And in my role
Of the protector
I stood guard
And scared off the invaders
Just from my steely stare
Now I am a broken pile of wood
And the branches are shards
Some things in life
Aren't fair
