Changed By A Dare

We waited for the return more than a decade
They'd left for the furthest galaxy from here
Discovered life, life complex, life abundant
We had to wait until now, to share accolades
From the reaches of space range far to near
And now modern lives seem to be redundant
The galaxies and stars and planets out there
Makeing life upon Earth just work, empty
We'd drained our planet dry, now had to flee
Knowing our lives change if only we dare
Spent decades fighting to achieve a peace
We've made a way out, we'll soon leaving
The emptiness of space will be our home
Until we arrive in our perfect Eden

“Those ancients who in poetry presented
the golden age, who sang its happy state,
perhaps, in their Parnassus, dreamt this place.
Here, mankind's root was innocent; and here
were every fruit and never-ending spring;
these streams--the nectar of which poets sing.”

Dante Alighieri
