From War Crimes to Rehabilitation

Since the end of the war historians have argued
That Japan was not a fascist but a military nation
The Code of Bushido a martial consideration
Used to condone violence, slaughter of civilians
It denied honorable treatment of defeated millions
Japan lost the peace, before considering surrender
USS Missouri the surrender, an empire dismembered
But the Japanese learned that the end to be different
While victims of the Japanese war sorrowed
The victors were generous with terms
A difficult peace made was made deferential
In the face of a brand new bipolar world
