Just a Mouse

Sometimes if I've had too little sleep
I imagine what life would be
If I lived in my bizarre dreams
I've never seen myself as a mouse
But I am too fat and stupid to be a cat
I don't think I am like a big dumb dog
But I do move quietly about the house
So maybe I am a mouse, maybe, maybe
But I don't fear the bigger animals
For I can hide, and I'm not a beast

'And the days are not full enough'

And the days are not full enough
And the nights are not full enough
And life slips by like a field mouse
Not shaking the grass.

Ezra Pound
