Humanity's Tragedy

Imagine humanity as genius, as morally good
We are so clever and resourceful, our story is golden
Collectively we can point to many great achievements
We've reached space, split atoms, fought disease and cancer
We've created beautiful arts, in word, sound, play, and film
Health continues to improve, allowing humans to get old
We build towers that reach the sky, dams, and modern cities
But humanity recreates grave crimes and tragedies
We've nearly wiped out the wildlife upon this globe
And worst of all, though we know better
We slaughter humans in war, crime, and famine
Our worst moments will be repeated, it lives in us
We have a need for violence, and we can't fight it
I wonder if we will achieve greatness
If we will overcome our nature
Before humans are cloned for their organs
And babies are bought, and they are sold?
