Lost Children

We think of a world where our children will thrive
But bullies and evil doers, careless and the foolish
Steal joy, crush souls, making it a victory to survive
Icarus was loved, treated well, given a pair of wings
But his father's wisdom was washed away, useless
Watching Icarus crash into the sea, his only offspring
Nothing he'd done, nor could do, could heal the broken flesh
