Arrival

Culturally speaking
We've arrived in a place
Where people seem to think
Rules are for weak
Laws are for suckers
Ideals are demeaning
And nothing has meaning
Everybody is a victim
Eternity is a fool's race
But I do not agree
Life is a mystery
Even if it is often misery
Eternity is not a guarantee
We exist to learn, to grow
And find a need to be redeemed
Life is far more complex
We are chastened by the quest
The world beyond our own
Is not promised, but is so much more
Fascination and surprise are allowed
I've been on a journey
I refuse to fall to doubt
Regret is expected and torments me
But it is part of life's lessons
Life is a test
Death is the door
