So Very Modern

We live in a modern society, where individualism should reign
Still, we're governed by fools, motivated by money and pleasure
Surrounded by a military built to create the impression of power
And kept in check by a police force that is just waiting to strike
We believe we are modern, but our ignorance and fear are a stain
Our ideals are very high, but our true compassion is like a desert
We work, but our time with others is measured in by the hour
We stay indoors from strangers, and gangs who come out at night
We are not happy, but fill our guts and minds with mental waste
Oh we'll riot, destroy our modern cities, abandoning this place
For to live and love here is soul crushing and cannot go on
However beautiful, this is a wasteland, a modern oblivion
