Her intellect was immense
She never allowed to explore
She'd a curiosity so intense
Never been allowed to grow
Her hopes repeatedly crushed
As her greatest dreams faded
Her simple need to know
Was confounded repeatedly
By a toxic reality
Into which she'd been pushed
And for her dreams then punished
She needed to find answers
If men saw her as beautiful
They thought quickly, it would seem
That she should be their own
They never heard her words
Never imagined her mind filled
Her ability to dream
In subjects and ideas
Beyond all of their thoughts
She bore a wrought mind
Full of imagination
Spectacular, beautiful and still
Society feared her success
She was a fully realized self
But more than see her
As an expression of hope
They saw her as a different answer
To the one answer offered
That they force themselves to accept
She was wild but
By the society in which she lived
She was thought to be tamed
