It danced with every step
Upon the white field of snow
The raven approached carrion
Long dead but recently thawed
The snow cover was diminished
Retreating under heat of the sun
A spring time miracle
The river bank's offering
Finally revealed
Under the sun's light cast
This raven knew
What hunger had meant
But the hunger would end
And now was the moment
When the thaw was done
A feast upon dead flesh
About to partake
In a vast final repast
Before leaving by flight
Upon the approach
By one with a camera
Who sought to capture
A moment that wouldn't last
