Before the Giant Beasts of Steel
December 16, 1944
Steel beasts crept through the front lines, lightly guarded
Unleashed upon the sleeping humans at the front now quiet
Wreaking panic, grave destruction and sowed seeds of fear
New green men gave way, flesh too soft to reply in kind
A rearguard fought still, a choke point, to slow the tide
Because whatever the result some held to a belief ardent
With body and blood against steel, in a front no longer silent
Now no going home, no Christmas gifts or happy new years
They threw their bodies into the conflict, a heroic suicide
For they could never defend against the steel thick hides
