Over time the human tribes built walls to keep their many foes from rushing across their territory and wiping out their proud legacies of culture, metal works and farm labors. Among the greatest leaders of the tribes took note of their accomplishments but didn't linger in the achievement, it was enough. But not for others, who envied their neighbor's wealth. Be it fine silks, or great gems, gold in hordes or art, the need to acquire grew, and hubris also bloomed. The human tribes were filled with envy and pride. Some of the foes of the human tribes were bestial, violent, destroyers of culture, but not all were so. The elvish and their allies were perceived by human eyes to be similarly bestial or violent, despite being kind, resourceful, and wise. Different yes, not one of the human tribes and were hated for that. Being of a different form, agile, light and intelligent. The elvish utilized the minds, mental powers, and upon allied others for acts of brute strength. In response to the human tribes fearful and hateful attitude towards them, the elvish chose a passive resistance. Sowing deceit among the humans, they told lies. These well planted seeds of deceit led to even greater fear.
Generations passed the humans were able to tame the wild borders, and with their foes so pacified, began to look at the elvish and despise them. For beyond their reach, these humans could not see for the smoke and deception. They were the sort who couldn't believe, if they had not touched or seen with their own eyes. The human leaders led parties of warriors and raided the elvish lands. Many warriors thought the raid would prove their strength, or forestall an attack. They shuttered as they were to realize, they'd invaded deeply into an endless forest, without finding any proof that the elvish resided there. They'd followed an enormous mirage, an illusion, a false image. By the time they returned to their own land, castles and high walls, they thought they might be safe, but their lands were emptied, and the population gone. No answers to the beckoning calls, no response at all. It is true that the elvish could defend themselves, they could resort to physical acts, as they were the greatest of archers, mental powers, they could perform magic and spells of illusion, and high elite of the elvish could take flight among flocks of great birds, and flew over vast distances. By thought the highest leaders and elite could transporting themselves where they needed to be.
The elvish were far advanced, and the humans deserved no mercy. The elvish revealed themselves to the human warrior bands, humbly, despite their great power and advantage. By spell they'd hidden the human populace, and the leaders of the elvish were waiting to see if the human leaders would despair. And despair they did. Dropping from the sky, from atop the hills, from the hidden surrounding lands, the elvish forces released the human civilians. The elvish leader gave a warning. "Trust that we, the elvish nation, could do your kingdom harm. Never again trust your darker instincts regarding us, we maybe strangers, but the next time there will be a consequence, unmatched destruction. One might forgive a fool his ignorance and actions, once yes, but not twice."
