The Machine Slows

Doing my route in the daily rain gets old
The changes of the past decade are many
No more snow, no more eating of meat
As life becomes a commodity to be sold
We are children, abandoned and foolish
Given over to needs that are petty
Who we are, as we become deleted
By the summers that never end
With a heat too great to live
In a world that can't pretend
This will be our species dying
For us to survive requires effort
Requires more than we can give
So instead we spend the time lying
And by refusing to forgive
