He knew there was something there
Beyond his cold set of perceptions
He didn't understand it, but still
As a parent it wasn't at all fair
He bought into a deception
And he didn't even care
He liked what he liked
Didn't worry over feelings
Or whatever else
That the world perceived
But then realized
That he had failed
Every moment he didn't embrace
Was thereafter lost to fate
He was willing to betray
His thoughts and sympathies
He dreamed in symphony
But refused to know
More than he was allowed
To ever know if or when
An imagination wasted
One never tasted
A life unsatisfying
A life lived ignorant
To all there could have been
