In order to invade Rome, his army crossed the Alps
For his bravery and creative genius, he's remembered
In more modern times another army crossed the Alps
The general who did so was forgotten in a brief time
Aleksandr Suvorov led Russian troops to rescue others
Surrounded by four times his numbers, he succeeded
His troops, not skilled in mountaineering, escaped
They crossed the Alps, which was a dangerous path
How many recognize the name Suvorov? At all still?
Few do now, and more have heard of Hannibal
Genius doesn't guarantee success or popularity
Nor recall the lengths some go to save a brother
A world ignorant of sacrifices will burn books
A world ignorant of bravery will burn people
