Normandie Nieman

It might be that into the dragon's maw
We'd now been finally cast
We joined the war for the Red Star
After the fall of our beautiful France
A government destroyed
And our people defeated
No, not for romance
Not out of circumstance
We fought because we burned
Inside was a love of freedom
It was an enormous task
To join battle against the Black Cross
Might've spelled our doom
For by fighting again
The enemy ordered our execution
We fought with courage
Knowing we'd soon be dead
Our nation's battle had been lost
But the hour was now
And joining forces against the foe
Would mean no evil state can stand
Not out of a chauvinistic love for our land
But for ideas instead
Hope, honor and freedom
We'd lit a flame, and we would fight
For such a flame brings light to a world
Even in a world as dark as night
