Stuck Before the Gate

Into the everlasting and gazing far away
The flock of swallows ride an upswing
Of the wind that is rising to the clouds
Where a former father wanders hopeless
His life changed forever by the one day
And he'd thought he knew everything
But his hubris caused him to be proud
He didn't care about the fears of others
Shattered by doubt, smothered by shame
He didn't realize the dangerous world
That could exist and could take from him
Everything in his life worth living for
Choosing to end this existence, a response
With two cuts from a knife and he sits
Upon a ledge, nearly on Heaven's edge
Without a way to get in, he just waits
Watches for signs, no hope lingers within
Without a thought, he is still, he shakes
But he will never move from that place
He says It doesn't matter now
Nor the way it was, nor how it should be
All that matters is his final breath
As he is spending his final days
