Farewell World

We are so often told how lucky we are
To live in an era of enormous wealth
Because we live in a modern economy
Over time our planet has been poisoned
By weapons and a need to make money
By hunger for power, and prestige
Ravaged by a need for modern energy
We contribute to the earth's bad health
But we're never going to be able to survive
For the doomsday clock measures time
There are few minutes left before we crash
Ending this cycle, one that could never last

“What the fissure through which one sees disaster? The circle is
unbroken; the harmony complete. Here is the central rhythm;
here the common mainspring. I watch it expand, contract; and
then expand again. Yet I am not included.”  Virginia Woolf
