The finality of failure

I've walked in the valley of death
Yea, without flinching
Feeling an emptiness everywhere
Of a mass species extinction
In a world that cared for themselves
And only for riches and fun
Expressed rage and failed esteem
By the barrel of a gun
I was unarmed, uninterested
In their love of and glories of war
This disease in others rampant
But left me such scars
However much of my life remains
Doesn't matter at all
For this lost world, is one of shame
Humanity has taken a great fall
There is nothing now
For we are gone
Even dreams cannot be allowed
But for computers and systems
Endless mazes of steel and wire
Of this emptiness we can be proud
A dead hand remains upon the button*
The result a firestorm and harvest
Death feasts upon death, a glutton
The end has come as it always does
Know that this is my final repast
And as with all bitter words
These are my last
We should've decided to act
Before it was too late
A future could've happened
It could have been great
But for our insecurities
Manic and tragic at once
We now pay for our disease
Living for pleasure and leisure
And all kinds of treasure
Our species has been consumed
We were allowed to make our choices
And thus, by our own hand's choices
We have been doomed
