Vietnam stopped the Mongols
From dominating their land
Like the Chinese before
And then many times after
The French decided
To weld together a colony
From the region's neighbors
Calling it IndoChina
Later the Japanese tried
But the French came back
Failed in another invasion
The Americans thereafter
Failed to force their hand
Vietnam refused to be ruled
From a throne afar
It is only the hubris expressed
That'd lead to any thinking
They could do better
Than the list of those
Who'd already fought
And lost
All received defeats
The defeats severe
With the knowledge
Every failed invasion
Has becomes a fool's game
To deny to the Vietnamese
Their right to being a nation
A people who bear the name
That conquerors should fear
But know that Vietnam is more
Than warriors and victims
She is the absolute gem
In a region of beauty
A vibrant living land
Verdant, full of hope
Fully worthy
Deserving of the beauty
That dwells in their hand
