Return to Life

He dared to venture where the dead sleep
Hoping to bring her to the surface world
The dead refused to even move, or wake
Their state was nightmare, not dream
Time passed there, uneventfully, paused
The dead could not return from Hades
Unless one dared to risk, and chances take
Running beyond the reach of the hounds
Hunting beasts, loosed by lord of the land
In that great moment when she saw daylight
She quickly turned to dust, with no sound
He was alone again, again without his love
And soon returned broken to land of life
Preferring to be with her, even if damned
He would wait, even if it was forever
