Statue

We remember heroes as a way of laying out a path of our legitimacy
Some people are memorialized in statues of brass or gold, or iron
They become part of our awareness, they can be constant reminders
Of greatness, the golden past, purpose, or of memories of the dead
To some they are meant to enforce, to others they are there to remind
Similar to humans, some are meant for better, others for worse
In themselves as the statues are not flesh, they don't think or care
Whether those who look at them are moved, or taken to despair
They are statues, not humans, they can't have their feelings hurt
