She Stalked her Prey

The humans chose to put up a tree
Decorated it, placed lights upon it
Placing nice boxes around the base
But the cat wanted to kill the beast
No matter how it was brightly lit
The happy decorations she'd chase
If the boxes were nicely wrapped
She knew that they must be slain
The tree's decorations were lovely
But Katya, would only obey
The driving instincts towards prey
And she'd make the tree finally fall
And the humans would rue the day
For singing and exchanging boxes
This, the moment of ascendance
She was the alpha of that family
She'd stalked her tree and lights
As a hunter she couldn't change
No she wouldn't change
That tree would die
Now, at last, it would die
A hunter's inborn instinct
To hunt, track and slay
Could not be denied

“when I am feeling
low
all i have to do is
watch my cats
and my
courage
returns”

Charles Bukowski
