Quieted Night

I watched as you watched the screen, from your hospital bed
Staring ahead, demanding to see the weather, t'was your right
Spent a life working, fruitless sad labors, and soon to be dead
Passed away, with a  mind quieted, in the silence of the night
You never said a word, content that the weather would be fine
Made happy, even hopeful by the promise of the weather man
And sooner or later, you'd realize, there is only so much time
But you wanted silence when words would help you understand
So over time I waited, in the silence you demanded, it was kind
Life moves on, I miss who I miss, and you are somewhere else
A life lost and gone, my questions go on, there's nothing left
