Such Sweet Lies

From the beginning of our time
To the very end here on earth
We tremble at the thought
This tapestry of falsehood
Begins at birth
We tell ourselves such sweet lies
As we say them in our minds
Silently
In perfect lucidity
While the lies are lunacy
May they keep us satisfied
But accept this truth
There's no reason to do so
No need for scientific proof
Give honesty a try
Use the mirror and look deep
There it is in your eyes
Don't avert your gaze
You've ended the curse
You know it, there's no shame
Abandon the mask
Life may be a masquerade
Learn to be content in the fact
That hope is real and all the more so
When you believe, so
So ask

“Lice consume grass, rust
consumes iron, and lying
the soul!” ― Anton Chekhov
