Slamming doors

You slammed the door
And closed yourself in
The room is small and clean
But I've been damned
You stare at the wall
Inspect the color
Wonder at the brush strokes
And ignore the fire
Burning the house down
The black smoke chokes
And you smile
This what you wanted
Because this is what you thought
But now
The memories will burn
The ghosts leave you haunted
Of the remnants of a life
The disaster you've wrought
Abandoning the love you believed
And wonder now at the reasons
A life betrayed
A family broken
A path blocked
Another path chosen
A prayer offered
A prayer unspoken
Know yourself
And be prepared
To understand
You've as much blame
As the other
And try to breathe
As the billowing smoke smothers
The house burns down
