28 Days

Nepotianus was descended of Constantine
Called by the moment to rise to the podium
He marched, then stood before the state
Taking leadership of a band of gladiators
He was offered up to become the Augustus
His will was believed by some to be worthy
He was another vine in a line of royal seed
He believed he was called, for he was to lead
But he was not famous, nor considered great
In 28 days he was slain, his head removed
It was seen as a symbol, placed upon a spike
He aspired to greatness, but in truth was not
And died before even his first imperial decree
Greatness is not something one is born to
It is not something we are called to be
It is how others see you
You've no control of that
Even if you long for it to be
