The Portal to Life

In hopes of new discoveries
Scientists are searching
For planets that sustain life
But finding a dead planet
Unable to support life
With no preserved ruins
Nor skeletal remains visible
No recognizable signs
But a single structure
Waiting, silent
It stands alone
As if it was self created
As if itself had planned it
Before long we will realize
It is a doorway to new life
Erected to shorten the way
Life doesn't need to exist here
It exists to bring all species near
And all planets will be seen
From a distance far away
But reachable
With the technology of today
We will understand
We will communicate
Preparing for first contact
To find cousin species and races
To find a way to survive
For our planets
Have dying cores
And worse
Death of their ecosystems
Effort, endurance and time
Are all reasons to go forward
The task will finally make sense
Because without such acts
Every species will end
We must extend our reach
Or there will be extinction
And abandonment
And alien life
Will find our remains
See our artifacts
And wonder why we didn't try
