Slaughterhouse

There are laws for ethical slaughter of animals
And rules within religions for their treatment
But how is it that we have such rules for them
When humans die at such an enormous rate
And die in various manners of death obscene
It seems at times that humans are ignored
And their suffering counted as empty
When we are consigned to a modern fate
We've become metaphorical sheep
Modern living is our herd
Nobody cares for the dying
No one cares for the dead
Let the dead sleep, let the living live
We cry but cannot be heard
There is nothing to save us
But letting the living exist
And to fight against the end
With moral persistence and kindness
