A Human Wall

At Thermopylae they stood
Paying the cost for all Greeks
Spartan and allied forces waiting
A human wall that had to break
When the onslaught came hard
In that mountain pass defense
Each Spartan was creating
Time, renewed hearts
A moment for Greece to unite
300 Spartans became every Greek
Persian King Xerxes wondered
If all Greeks would fight like these
There'd be no Persian army left
And no stories could be told
Of his great victories
Yet to come
