They were blown away by what they saw
In the era these existed and ruled the skies
Flying and gliding, swooping to the kill
Modern humans remained awestruck
Wondering how they survived, and still
Modernity had no explanations of worth
Nothing made any sense, no theory worked
The minds of science had declared them gone
Long ago, in eras beyond time, countless
Extinct and ancient they'd entered cessation
But they weren't dead, they were dormant
Earth fires fed them, kept them in hibernation
Keeping them alive there in safest of keeps
They were hidden in the earth's viscera
They were waiting to be awakened
Growing in size, even in their sleep
And when they were awakened
Earth experienced hell
And the flyers ruled
While mankind fell
