The Glass

We live upon razor thin margins of protection
And we shatter with even the slightest strike
Our breath fogs the view, a mirror, our glass
With shattered memories, shattered feelings
We watch our minds perform live dissection
Thoughts inflict damage to mind and body alike
Time is not there for us to heal, for life to last
Each attack leaves us dazed, confused, reeling
And only upon finding the mirror cracked
Can we begin to see that perfection is the lie
And our days have been spent trying, desiring
To live for ideals we'll never be,
To please the people we never see
