An End to the War

To kill a dragon, would earn the warrior his name
Then the two, armored knight and ancient wyrm
Took to a field surrounding castle and villagers
A duel fought, to the final blow, without fame
For all of the people have fled, no witnesses
The land's been scoured by the dragon's fire
And there's nothing worth saving, all is gone
But the duel was fought, with two lives taken
All for the desire to kill or to punish the other
Nothing remains now, not even the final story
For here two dead warriors lay side by side
A human warrior in armor, a dragon in scales
Both find death in all memory, without glory
But exchange greetings full of honor
Where they now exist, in the after world
