Told not to have expectations
This species couldn't endure
Nor could we again ever thrive
But our numbers were made up
Of those who were ready
To fight for every inch of life
To live, die or simply survive
The choice was never ours
Life in the hands of the steady
Was a better option than others
For they had a perceived duty
To rise, to fight, to live another day
We would go on, to build again
Long after given up for dead
