Academia has certain limitsHowever elite and brilliant
It has problems
A control exerted by an orthodoxy
Upon those who don't follow others
Utilizing "proper" thinking
Or allowing the power of ego
To guide research
Instead of the pursuit of truth
Ego seeks to take credit
When others might be due
We should encourage great thinking
I believe that science is a path
To a better world
To greater achievements
To a different destiny
By which we may reach the stars
To, perhaps, a greater truth
Cultivating people of intelligence
Allowed humans to end a world war
Which sounds good
In a demonstration for the world
Civilians were slaughtered
Due to the modern advancement
Nuclear weapons were created
Without an equal rise in wisdom
Or a better impulse control
Or the desire to go to war
Whatever our mental sophistication
Solipsistic minds created a new reality
Human development quickly grows
Because we are far more clever
Than we are kind
Often ignoring our lack of control
Because we aimed our minds
At creating wealth
Far more than new discoveries
Our worst and most troubling impulses
Have not faded, no, in fact they've risen
And the idea of incredible minds working
To create the next generation of war
Will leave humanity dead or dying
When we haven't healed yet
From our previous scars
