Midnight's Tribe

Whoever the enemy was, we do not know
But their weapons were used in a rage
Normal existence had died
A few cities had survived
The bomb's radiation killed the weak
The impact killed all of the old
The infrastructure was left untouched
There was no more than normal decay
High radiation bombs weren't designed to destroy
Buildings, bridges and roads were now emptied
Radiation waves cut through flesh, slaying
Irradiating every human life
We nearly went extinct, in a flash
But it was an incomplete task
It is true that the bombs killed many
But the radiation brought forth new men
We formed clans and gathered for safety
Trying to survive the violence, and need
We took upon us symbols of allegiance
For whom we'd bleed
Staring into the sky, we were aware
Our time was short, life would be hard
The surviving world did not care
However we might act
Whatever we might do
We were witness to catastrophe
We had to start over again
To find our path, to rise from the ashes
If there was nothing, we still survived
And that alone meant something
We came out at night
When the burning sun had fallen
And we scoured the earth for food
And listened to hear the ghosts calling
Asking for us to end it all
To add the killing blow
But we endured in any event
Survival was not curse
We had to live
With no right way to go
