streets

Searching for the next high
Her kids were doing what they were taught
She'd been abandoned and raped
Unready to fight the battle she fought
She didn't mean to teach them the streets
But it was all she knew
All she was able to do
Every day walking the city on their tired feet
Each generation leans upon the lessons
Lived by the generation before
The role model teaches through impressions
Personal behavior, not words, are the door
They will pass through
Life is more than the drugs they find
Life is a way to live in your mind
