Aliens

In the ancient world the way to signal an alarm over distance, or a message of sorts, was to set a fire to a pyre or wood stacked for burning upon the tallest of mountain tops.  For miles the burning flame was sending a message, whether the message was prepare for war soon, the king is dead, or even expect to receive a messenger from the king, these emergency messages could forestall doom.

In the deep of space, earth seem surrounded by darkness, and the human race can feel alone. But what if our ability to understand messages sent from a distance are the equivalent of email in an age of fire atop the mountain.  Perhaps all of our eyes to the skies are watching a message being transferred to our land, and we haven't a moment of thought that can understand.
