A Generation no longer Beloved

We were raised by our parents, who'd won the great war
We were told that we could be successful, just like them
War took place, so many died, Asia and Europe leveled
All of us were told to obey, trust and be like our parents
We were called to hold off a Communist victory in Asia
Our generation was told that they were all bright, ready
Vietnamese victims of foreign dominance, fought well
Meanwhile America measured victory on body counts
We'd become exterminators or must abandon our path
We never forgot how our own society abandoned us
For trying to fight the war we could never truly win
The many wounded, lost or dead, died for prestige
We did not do anything to anyone but to kill them
They adopted Communism, and held few grudges
We were hated, and called child killers, spat upon
Our generation bore the sins of our American way
We no longer have anything we might say
