The Smoldering Fire

If pain, suffering, failure, and the pursuit of pleasure are all that life offers
We might be better off not choosing, even if that means a quick slaughter
Born into a world of danger, one of hunger, conformist demands and Hell
Aborted hope, unreachable goals, empty dreams lead to a pursuit of wealth
The emptiness of being haunts one's steps, and leaves a vacant footprint
A joy in life never happens, outside life does occur, but with a dread within
Some are fulfilled by the common life, others refuse to be satisfied by more
Results lead to people with no burning fire, immune to passion at our core

“Uniformity...creates a void, and Nature abhors a vacuum.” Henri-Frédéric Amiel

Setting Sun, Rising Moon

There is a life in twilight, found in the gloaming light
Day extinguished, as creatures that come out at night
Make the appearance, making sounds of dark delight
Howling an inner fire, the bestial instincts gives sight
Farewell day, the gray comes soon, and then of course
As the children of the dark dance, seeking the source
A struggle between the living and the dead at the core
Flesh weaves its story, in the end, we die, without glory

The Ears of Idiots

They'll tell you that you are beautiful
If you have something that they want
And will tell you that you are a genius
If you've a talent that they might flaunt
Let your dreams be unleashed
Let your heart be stirred
Try to ignore the idiots, if you might
By making certain to lose the desire
To please others who do not matter
Or the desire to be seen as being right
When popularity has no real worth
Find Heaven, let your heart delight
In all the things that matters truly
That allow you ascendance from earth

“A man of ordinary talent will always be ordinary,
whether he travels or not; but a man of superior
talent will go to pieces if he remains forever in
the same place.”   Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Confessional

They always blame the victim
The one who refused to break
When then the abuser acts
It is my innocence he'll take
The aftermath, pains linger
And then they ask
Why did you want this
But no one would've wanted it
No one wants evil to happen
To themselves
They were fools to ask
And it was as if I spoke Latin
I stared them coldly in the eye
My honesty was a disguise
My personal code violated
I couldn't accept the distrust
While breaking by their hand
I'd have never lied
So I waited, and faced them
And in adulthood I denied them
No one is ready to be despised
Not now, nor forever after
Amen

"What's left of kisses? Wounds,
however, leave scars.” Bertolt Brecht

The Briar Patch

A tangle, woven of thorns
A briar patch reaching out
Humans the hunted beast
A bloom of flowers
Deeply hid a threat
It was dangerous
To all mother born flesh
Briar didn't hunger meat
It wasn't carnivorous
The flesh wasn't wounded
The body was not ill
But the victims were taken
Their soul consumed
With the flesh emptied
Bodies alive sleep
But left ignorant
Seemingly innocent
A placid setting
An invitation of doom
The armor of the lost
Piled up and warned
As sleepers and dreamers
Could not wake

Growth

To simply endure can never be enough
Without more we will fall surely
If we live we must have hope
Our lives must be fed and satisfied
Existence should be aimed right
By spending each life finding love
We must dream, we must live until
Our life is exposed upon a tightrope
Dangerously, emotionally
We must balance our dreams and trust
With knowledge and wisdom
Widely spread across the globe
For our world to be fulfilled
We must live for others
We must be loving
For our souls to truly grow

Count the Seconds as they pass

Every day I live is one less until I find you
Each second that goes by, I no longer have
That doesn't worry me, that's actually good
I'd rather be in your embrace than go back
I'll enter deep into the empty great wasteland
There is nothing here but here I stand

The Future Cannot be built upon Lies of the Past and Present

“The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and
obliterate their own understanding of their history.”
                                                                 George Orwell

Whatever our dreams or beliefs, whatever the situation
The past is gone and the future remains undiscovered
We've reason and right to know the world beyond our own
Presented before us is a false offering, a false history
Which leads us to a wicked kind of mental starvation
We're fed upon lies leading to a future we'll never find
Unable to swim against the weight of lies we fall
Because when the past is a lie, the future is impossible
The enemy leads us by acting as the high morality
The world remains beautiful, but it might be lost
The rulers offer a governance, but it is stagnation
We need more to existence but liberty has a cost
We cannot live without oxygen, freedom is oxygen

Sleep's Master

I'm made to wait, until he finally visits and takes my surrender
There is no threat, I am led to hope rather than any kind of fear
But as I take my time to renew through dream, I still remember
The day rots my mind, my mistakes manifest, leading to tears
Until the lord of sleep returns, the days' events burn as embers
Churning, toiling, crushing me, grinding the wheels of the gear
In dreams I'm king, but in waking hours I'm the pretender

“All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.”
― Edgar Allan Poe

A Festive Meal for Someone

Like sheep to slaughter, we'll bleed without purpose
Each throat is slit quickly, for better or for the worse
Our life's empty, each death will condemn our future
We're all born in the vacuum, into a grinder we churn
As the earth is spinning, upon the rotisserie we'll turn
Our lives are lived badly, our sacrifice now spurned

Waiting

As darkness prevails, darker than night
The storm covers and the gloaming falls
Clouds gather fall  upon the cold ocean
But lighthouses shine across the bay
The town folk gather around the hearth
Time and fate entwine, interwoven
The sky is thick with rage, forming
Villagers await the wall of waves
And they take comfort together
Prepared, for the storm's surge
Soon the wind builds, urgently
Rains pour, and the ocean bellows
But the village folk are all safe
Taking shelter by the forewarning

"White-crested waves crash on the shore. The masts
sway violently, every which way. In the gray sky the
gulls are circling like white flakes. Rain squalls blow
past like gray slanting sails, and blue gaps open
in the sky. The air brightens."         Yevgeny Zamyatin

Thunderstruck, Lightning Strike

In the midst of catastrophe I found you
Like thunder's power, lightning striking
In the disaster with nothing I could do
But be moved, there was no deciding
I had to act, or be crushed from within
Must be willing, or let the madness win
So keep looking deeply in my eyes
I promise to never tell you a lie
You are the sole reason my heart beats
Together I know we'll find victory
Because of you, I believe

“No rain but thunder, and the
sound of giants.” Mike Mignola

Bullies, Fools and Jerks

Always the bullies, fools and jerks
Try to crush you with their words
Every breath they commit hate
In every bit of speech they retaliate
But you don't have to let them win
Your strength comes from within
Let there be nothing they might do
To steal your dignity from you
They are not worth your time
They cannot live your life
Every day is a new chance
To change the circumstance

Frozen Disconsolation

Lost in the snow fog, I am unable
The stark void of existence displayed
In subzero temperatures, life is ended
My extremities become numbed
Dazed and confused, body in misery
I've entered into a dangerous place
All is lost to the pain, lost to the cold
And then I stumble about
My existence never solved the mysteries
I was moved by, to try to solve
As I fall into fields of deep snow
I can see a vision of pure white
Blinded and frozen, my life is in danger
In the extremes you learn the truth
I've discovered the horror of the white out

No Sleep on the Street

3 a.m., there's rain coming down, not tears
A punk kid shaking from the cold, not fear
Lives on the street, needs a fix, needs it now
Survives by begging money and by stealing
He doesn't dream, his situation refuses sleep
But when he gets his fix, he'll ride that horse
And have the deepest kind of sleep, forever

Br8king

With every breath I take I am reminded
Of the choice you made, when you decided
I wasn't worthy, I was a stain in your life
My being is empty, not worth your time
You tell me I matter, but then ignore me
My dreams are shattered, oh poor me

Wages of F8

There is nothing written, nothing is promised
But we'd like to wish and believe in destiny
Whatever happens, we'll finally be kissed
By the Angel of Death Azrael, in ecstasy
There's no destiny, only fate just like death
We are bound to earth, by our fragile flesh
As we all die, we all must survive, endure
And our journey begins with a single breath

"Everyone wants to be foremost in this future-and yet death and
the stillness of death are the only things certain and common to
all in this future!"                                                    Friedrich Nietzsche

Strike at Midnight

They are shadow warriors in the dark
Hunting the enemy with modern tech
Tracking movement, and using stealth
A mile away, the bullet strikes a heart
With silenced weapons, soft boots flee
Make no sounds and speak no words
Scopes and amplified light from stars
After anyone realizes the strike scored
No, sir we don't know what happened
No sir, oh no Mr. Commissar
The strike team waves farewell
And the ghosts of the battlefied
Bid final au revoir

“The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to
rule it. Power is what all messiahs really seek: not the chance to serve. This is
true even of the pious brethren who carry the gospel to foreign parts.”  H.L. Mencken

Crucixion

If you saw it done, you'd believe it was madness
And that no sound mind could choose to do it
We think of crucifixion as a solely Roman practice
But Carthage, a colony of Phoenicians did it too
Rome and Carthage were not alone in this
Others used it, for it was the epitome of cruelty
Being crucified would drive a victim to madness
Lungs would fill with liquid, the lips turned blue
A mind would be lost, in a struggle to survive it
Crucifixion is the ultimate penalty of torture
Used to punish treachery, or rebellion
Use of this means was against all humanity
Nothing could be done to save a victim
Once the body was broken thoroughly
It'd take an executioner of special ability to do it
For the process is hard, leaving an executioner broken
And there are few more painful ways to slay a man

FUJI-San and the Wave

As the waves crash down and your boats sink
Choose to gaze over at the mountain Fuji-san
Waves will do as they will, whatever you try
You might never catch a glimpse again, so think
If the end is here, leave with joy, and permission
For you've seen Heaven before you have died

A Survivor's Lament

With a helpful computers, and a broken mind,
I've been bestowed of treacherous memories
I watched as my world died
I've no hope to be restored
My tech suit keeping out radiation
It regularly produces oxygen
My comrades are all gone
As well as all of my hope
Our world has been destroyed
The same with our legacy
Nuclear planet killer bombs were used
Each shook the planet core
Our planet dead, all life is lost
I'm the surviving watchman
Nothing I can do will change the path
Of what has already been done
I'll linger for a while, try to forget
But for now, I've only regret
What was done was wrong
And the planet paid the cost

Before the Gate

Buried in the splendor, blooming around the dead is life
As if the throne is surrounded by fineries and decor
With the carved sculptures and the walls made perfect
The grandeur meant to celebrate a life lived earnestly
Some find happiness and glory, others live without a taste
Sadly, the dead will rest better than in other times
Built to remind us, that upon death our spirit soars
Instead tells a story of life lived in, with grave regret
I might die tomorrow but I'm trying to escape
A prison, awaits, the cold ground
Perhaps a cold pine box for all eternity

Ripped

With his life knocked down, he couldn't find hope inside
With his life crushed, ripped from him, he had to decide
How was this life cursed, would he surrender to the fear
What is left, what matters, is a life purified by the fire?
If lives are measured for worth, what's been left behind
He made a quick turn, with sins washed away by tears.

Radioactive Dust Dances in the Wind

Walking upon the desert, breathing in the dust
Of a radioactive landscape, born of our distrust
Lost our way, as we walked to the depths of hell
Sun beats a tale upon our neck, the skin will tell
Just how weary our flesh becomes, now my son
Let us act to save our future, we must overcome
To create a new story, to save the next generation
Nothing grows now, we'll need to fight starvation
Return to hope, restoring a world, that has burned
Do not be silent, as we build the machines of war
For they'll not save lives nor help us reach the stars
But lead us to an apocalypse, a permanent eclipse
Whatever victory declared will leave no winner
As we scavenge for food in a nuclear winter

Darkness

To call it the darkness, inviting empty foolish niceties
The world believes it cannot stand to go without light
But Days hide atrocities, in the plain view of knowing
Implying that crimes are worse because it is night

"We Only Come Out at Night" Billy Corgan

No More

After days of silence
You break the quiet
You say you love me
But the words are false
And say you want me
But our love has no pulse
You say you want me to say it
But the lies stick in my throat
And can't escape my tongue
Words making me choke
You'd rather have a false dream
Than work on it
Choosing fake over the real thing
You'd rather I obeyed
Than if I acquiesce
You scream at me
Every single day
I hate the way
You manipulate me
And constantly betray

OPERATION TEN GO

At the end of the Second World War, Japan was realizing a futility
At the beginning they'd seen victories, superior tactics and strategy
In the end, they had no fuel, pilots or ability to defend their nation
It was clear that Japan would be invaded, defeated, occupied
Never before was Japan made subservient to occupation
To act in defiance, tempt fate, to demonstrate to the invading Allies
IJNS Yamato led a sortie to Okinawa and die as a way we will rise
Hundreds of US aircraft swarmed the naval squadron, killing it
IJNS Yamato was the all time largest, a most powerful battleship
The IJNS Yamato exploded, hundreds of lives were lost
As well as the remaining dreams of the nationalist and idealists
Soon it was realized, hope was futile, fighting was slaughter
Of those remaining, few desired to fight, only the extremists
They didn't see the consequences of actions, nor did they bear the cost
Facing a final battle, with death tolls and damage everlasting

No Justice for the Butcher

A grieving father addressed the damned
Look me in the eyes, like any other man
You plead guilty, for some terrible things
You killed my child, then stole my dreams
If you think time in jail, will keep you safe
You don't understand, I know how to chase
You will never breathe free air, never again
I will find you, the world know your name
I'll kill you, and refuse to let you dream again

My poem is fiction, but the killer was real.

Assassin, Hunter

The hunter is ready, a need to slay endures
The target alone, unaware, the target to find
For this hunter has an inner aim so pure
It does not matter a prey's quality of life
To be a slayer, the path must now be clear
Go now assassin, take this life
Kill Marat, use your knife

In the Darkness of the Depths

In the ever darkened realms, of deep tunnels and lands
There is life, some depend upon brief glimpses of light
But other forms of life thrive upon the darkness there
In biological forms where sound and scent are assets
For them the ability to visually see, is less important
To some blind but with sight, seeing without seeing
An existence like this seems alien to us, but if there
We'd be the aliens, our dependence upon sight rare

Extinction Agenda

(This is fiction, no deeper truth is aimed at than we are vulnerable to pandemics)

Enemy scientists developed virus strains, then attempted to corrupt human DNA
Using monkeys, then human subjects finally sorting results, successes and rejects
Human society devolved after introduction with no way to aim the vile corruption
Then the species approached extinction, the design was to slay, with no remedy
Eventually only the rare mutant survived no clarity existed, no answer found
As humanity entered bestial civilization phase, to spiral down, into the depths
Never to return

Random

In every day humans are born
And then, after a life
They will die
Not every death is defeat
Some lives escape torment
Of loss or pain
Judgement or scorn
Having known joy
But so many die in youth
Or tortured into adulthood
How can hope thrive
In such a world
So randomly insulting
So powerfully menacing
So much can be wrong
When then we see another
Who into the fabric woven
Comes torn
Ripped from the womb
Spitting upon fear
Risking everything
And leaps into the tomb
Satisfied
And in winter snows settle
Across the stones marking
All of the lives
Now gone

In Despair

With piles of bodies violently broken, placed upon an altar
In despair, I called out to the angels hovering above the land
For they watched the righteous fail, and the wicked prosper
I cried for the destruction and waited upon God's hand
Of the most righteous, powerful, well above the slaughter
In time I'd know why the pain, for now I couldn't understand

Resist the new order

Whether it is systematic murder
Race riots or disaster, wild weather
A war, or secret invasion
We might well face a situation
Without warning, an event occurs
As government senses weakness
Tries to create a new world order
One based upon their ideal
Sends troops against the people
By such begins a new war
Against the individual
Against the former state
If we hesitate for a moment
Everything we know as normal
Will be taken from us
Along with every choice
How we react to the new world
All that we can even see
It'll determine the freedoms
For all people
Into the future
I am not a leader but I can say
I'll promise that I will be defiant
Opposing the demand of obedience
Even should it lead to my destruction

“Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth --
more than ruin, more even than death.”  Bertrand Russell

Last Walk

On the tightrope I walk
As the executioner talks
"It is your time, today
Prisoner"
Forever will I be haunted
By the acts of my hand
And for those acts
I will be paid
There is nothing I can do
Nothing I can say
My life is at an end
For the predator I am now prey
The lethal injection protocol
Has just begun
Life isn't a war
It can't be won
Even if you pray
Now I learn the penalty
For the man I have become

Madness of the Masquerade

To defy the damnation and to feed the starvation
Disaster as the distraction, a voiding satisfaction
Your eyes are a disguise for your constant lies
The masquerade ends, there will be no amends
Madness rising, mind screaming, the end is here
A nightmare of living, of being unforgiving
Dreams toxic, perverse, I can't escape the curse

“No great mind has ever existed without
a touch of madness.” Aristotle

The Last Rebels

After the bloody battle, the rebels were gathered about
Leaders determined among them, a noose around the neck
For taking arms against the king, and enter into a rebellion
The kingdom watched, as the rebellion was snuffed out
The last battle fought, the leaders would now take a step
Swinging a rope, twisting in the wind, until made skeleton
Bones held by rope, a symbol for all to see, if in doubt
The last of the enemy men, made into a body orchard
Hanging like fruit from a tree, and their family tortured
By the vision before their eyes of when rebellions die

Whistleblowers

Revealing state secrets
Or providing insight
Into dirty places
They'd scour it all
Digging for truth

Secret nuclear plants
The fault for a massacre
A context for foreign wars
A CIA supplying drugs
The NSA spying on us
The failing of the FBI
Or dangerous nuclear leaks
A president's indiscretions
White House unethical acts
Secret information gathering
Crooked cops in NYC
Ending an unjust war

Their reporting announced
That now was the final hour
But instead of being praised
All were punished, repeatedly
Reporting unethical choices
By the government
Or individuals with power

Our Banners Lifted High

Armed with steel, and wrapped in armor
Our leaders were all riding steeds
Into the emptiness, we began to march
Roughly crossing into the vile Deadlands
Defense of the empire was our charge
Where in the midst of the chaos and din
There was a spirit of madness within
Like a snake crawling through the valley
Accompanied by our kindred and allies
We moved forward through the land
Preparing for battle that lay ahead
We were the living soon to be dead
Our banners lifted high into the breeze
Announcing our presence to the enemy
We entered formation, then were deployed
And now in the battle, bodies would clash
We refused to lose this epic fight
We pledged our lives from first to the last
The end left each army destroyed

Fallen and Burning

As you feel the blood leave your body
In the shock of a pain of the knowing
A masterwork that you'd once created
Had fallen down, a foundation rotted
Standing instead, a family disowning
All your dreams now being dislocated
By efforts to build an everlasting estate
Without a foundation or hope or home
