Hero?

Some heroes are admired
Some heroes are despised
They do not get to choose
Inside each of them burns a fire
Some are speakers who refuse compromise
Some are heroes
Because in defiance of being accused
They do not relent
They are the voice
They are the raised fist
They are those who walk into the breach
Doing what others could not
Doing what others cannot understand
Heroism is neither a trait found in DNA
Nor is it based upon any sort of lineage
Heroism is born from need
Acted upon with fear and hope
Trying to forestall doomsday
Never knowing if they will succeed
Not limited to war, to politics, to religion or space
Heroes are us all, but better
They bleed
They die
They do what others cannot
